Which activity categories count as breaks in WILSON?

WILSON's working-time validation engine uses a fixed list of activity categories to determine what qualifies as a break. Only activities assigned to one of these categories are taken into account when checking minimum break times and maximum continuous working hours.

Categories recognised as breaks

Category

Description

Break

Standard paid break

Break (unpaid)

Unpaid break period

Break (partially paid)

Break with a configurable paid percentage

Break in duty time

Interruption of the duty period (Dienstzeitunterbrechung)

Flexible break

Flexible break period

(portal only β€” not yet recognised on mobile)

Any activity assigned to a different category β€” including activity interruptions β€” is not counted as a break for compliance purposes, even if it results in a gap in the shift timeline.

Why this matters

If a worker reports a break using a category not on this list, the system will treat the period as continuous working time. This can trigger false working-time violations such as "minimum break not met" or "maximum time without break exceeded."

If you believe a category is missing from this list, please contact your WILSON administrator or raise a request with Menlo79.
